In the landscape of outdoor experiences that combine culture and nature, the Transumansia project continues to stand out as one of the most original formats in recent years. Created during the lockdown period, this trekking with reading cycle conceived by Arianna Porcelli Safonov takes participants along ridges and in Italian forests, alternating between walking and moments of reading aloud. Its purpose is twofold: to reconnect with the natural environment and to reflect, with irony and clarity, on the relationship between city life and the rural world.
For 2026, the project is enriched by a new collaboration with Greenatural, which joins Transumansia in sharing the same values of environmental respect and the promotion of a more conscious lifestyle. A synergy that emerges naturally.
The format remains true to its essence: loop treks of around 6–8 km, pauses in the woods, and readings from Fottuta campagna and other texts centred on the theme of “returning to nature”. Along the route, participants are guided not only physically but also narratively, in an experience that blends introspection, satire, and observation of the landscape.
A short interview with Arianna Porcelli Safonov

Transumansia is a project that keeps evolving. What does it represent for you today?
“It’s still an experiment, but a successful one. It was never meant to be an escape—rather, a way to look more closely at what surrounds us. Walking helps you focus, it removes noise.”
How has your relationship with the audience changed over time?
“At the beginning there was a lot of curiosity; today there is also awareness. People arrive already willing to listen—not just to me, but to the place they’re in. A kind of temporary community forms.”
What happens during a day of Transumansia that wouldn’t happen elsewhere?
“What happens is that you genuinely slow down. It’s not just the pace of your steps—it’s your mental rhythm. Readings enter differently when you’re immersed in a forest, without distractions.”
What do participants take home with them?
“Not definitive answers. Rather, a few more questions—and the feeling of having looked at things from another perspective. Which is already a lot.”
The 2026 calendar includes several stops along the peninsula, confirming the itinerant vocation of the project. To check the dates of Transumansia 2026 visit: www.ariannaporcellisafonov.com
